Special Moments

Just a few moments from our yesterday, wholly cherished, wholly loved.
Merry Christmas 2013!

Tradition

I have casually been sneaking into my not-quite-set-up-yet sewing/craft room for a few small sewing adventures...10 minutes here, 5 minutes there, as I can manage it. Some projects will need to wait to be shared with you until after Christmas...shh! For now, though, some gloves are getting repaired, a crocheted blanket is getting mended from a false cut made with Nathan's scissors (oops!), and  a Christmas Tradition in our family was calling my name to get finished up. A stocking for James.
With Babe on my lap, I pull out the semi-blank stocking that I (thankfully) made many, many years ago. We had given our pets some stocking way back and had extra, all to match. It was a Simplicity pattern I had borrowed (and apparently kept, sorry Amy) from my sister to make the stockings.
Some calico material for the socks, batting for the inside, and linen for the fold-over at the top. Amazingly, I had some gold embroidery floss already to get the job finished.
With only my right hand free, I drew James' name on the stocking with my disappearing marking pen in a style I liked.
I then started on the embroidery with a very simple hand stitch. I just followed my pen marks and  overlapped each stitch by half.

And, it went pretty quickly. And with so little time these days on my hands (or, hands-free) it was nice to have a satisfactory quick project completed..and in time (not that I intend to put anything in his stocking, but its the thought that counts I'm hoping on here).
What I like most about our stockings, is that all our stockings are similar, but each unique. I embroidered each name on over the years in a different style, which still suits my style just right.

Do any of you have multiple sets of stockings? We have three (four sets if you had asked me a month ago). These, above, are the ones I generally use, extended family traditional ones made by my aunt, and camouflage ones that Steven brought home from his tour in Afghanistan a year and a half ago. I guess we need more trees around the house to display multiple stockings??? Hmm....maybe next year.

  Have a VERY Merry Christmas!

A Little Like Christmas

We have been in our new home now about 3 1/2 weeks. We just love adore being here. It has been an additional treasure to move some boxes out of the way and make room for a few, simple Christmas decorations this year. With a newborn and a new house, I am reaching for the simple this year. So simple, in fact, that I have hardly done much at all. Steven has done most of the Christmas preparations this year in our new home, while I have attended to the gift shopping online from the comfort of home.

Because of Steven, our house looks so festive:

He and Nathan are keeping up our third year advent calendar tradition that Steven designed and built:

We took a day to go look at our favorite Christmas train display as a family:

And doing a random craft here and there.... This coffee filter garland off Pinterest Nathan
helped me make:

And even doing a few Christmas crafts out of the house (at the hardware store):

This year we've slowed down. Buying mostly, and not creating much. A different change of what we normally do each year, that has been interestingly refreshing. These days I'm just playing with and snuggling my two precious little men that I am oh, so thankful for this Christmas season (and my wonderful husband)!

Hope your family is also so blessed as you prepare for this Christmas season!
Merry Christmas...preparations!

More Makings

Seen this stuff popping up in every store now, like I have? Seen the movie yet? I had some close friends treat me to a delightful afternoon out last week, as they took me to see the new release of the movie, Frozen, by Disney....And let me tell you....Frozen may be my new Disney fav of all time...why? because a genuine love triumphed at the end instead of a romance. I loved that! So, I must insist that you go see it with your little gal! All the giggles in the theatre even brought a smile to my face!
And, after you've seen the movie, and have fallen in love with it, you MUST then buy my new pattern, folks! My pattern is the only one out there of its kind to make your little princess a true-to-movie, genuine costume! Buy it! But, if you're still on the fence let me tell you it's even ALL digital, and available instantly on my Etsy site! My amazing friend, Johanna, partnered with me on this project and she has produced some quite spectacular graphics for this pattern! We know you'll love it!
For even more information and pictures on my pattern, go HERE, and HERE and then

And if you're still looking for a Sofia the First costume to make, I can help you with that too right here! I get rather giddy seeing all of the beautiful Sofia gowns you've been making! One of my awesome testers sent me this amazing picture of "Build-A-Bear Sofia" she made. She reduced the size of my pattern to fit the bear....how amazing is that???!!! I love it!

And the most crafting I've been doing lately is trying on James a few of the things I designed and sewed for him before he was born....

One of the gown/layette I designed for him HERE...

And from my cloth diaper pattern (coming soon in 2014):
Trying out my size 1/2. So far it's a great fit on baby James. I'm slowly easing back into cloth diapering now after his birth, and after our recent move. And, my, look how cute that tush is!!!!...and those chubby legs!!! Oh my!

Yes, we moved two weeks ago into a simply lovely new home! We are so thrilled! We are still sorting through boxes here, but I thought I'd give you a sneak peak at my new sewing room!!! Oh yes, a room ALL TO MYSELF! Now don't worry...Steven got his own craft room too! Yes, we are truly loving this new space of ours! Very blessed indeed!
And while I am working on one very special, commissioned sewing project for a friend, the new year is already waking up with new projects on the horizon....

By special request...this lovely pink popstar princess costume (not Keira's) may be next. I see satin, lace, and ribbon. Oh yes. It's on the drawing board, Miss Devyn!
And well, since the release of my Anna pattern, I've had a few requests for Elsa too (her sister), so we shall see. Lori, one of my brilliant pattern testers, made an Elsa costume that just blew me away, so she may inspire me to get some work done on that one too. But the popstar princess
for now..definitely yes!

Natural Comparison

I know I have been blogging absent for awhile. An understandable absence most certainly, right? There have been nearly three weeks of non-stop cuddling around here since he's come....and well, we're just soaking it up....and nothing much else. Steven took off work for 2 1/2 weeks and I'm so grateful. He's done all his jobs and mine around the house, really taken care of me (post-2nd c-section), and been Mr. Wonderful to our two boys! So much help and delicious meals have been coming our way, and so much support from family, friends, and our church family. We really have been so blessed indeed!
With all the cuddling going on around here, the work being continued on my Anna pattern, and packing for a move next week (oh my, yes!), we've been thinking about how natural it is to make comparisons. Well, we all tend to compare our children, right? So, since James has been born (just about 3 weeks ago now), we have been saying "do you think he looks like Nathan did"? We think so one day, and not the next. So, I thought I'd pull up some old photos and compare our boys myself. So, what do you think?

...and then with Mommy and Daddy....

...and then with my family....

...and with my Grandparents....

...and with brothers together.... (Nathan 2 3/4 yrs old, James 3 weeks old)
Nathan sometimes has asked to "hold brothers"...and I oblige. I love the small moments where he has acknowledged his new, little brother, welcomed him to the family, and gently rubbed his little head. This Mommy is grateful for seeing, being a part of, and photoing these special moments. They will always be close to my heart...and will probably make me cry over and over again. We love our two little men! We are so thankful to the Lord for bringing them into our lives and giving us all that He has. We are blessed beyond measure, our cup overflows.

Meet All The Princesses....and One Prince

As my Princess Anna Costume Pattern is nearing completion, I would like to introduce you to my four Princesses!
***Princess Anna costume is now ready for purchase!!!***

My pattern is available in four cross-over sizes, as shown above.

My friend from high school has two precious and adorable little girls who were willing to show-off two sizes of pattern design that I created. Such a joy to spent time with these girls! My friend said that her oldest daughter even wore her costume all day! I so appreciate her willingness to let me spoil her girls a little bit! They will now be all set for the movie premier in late November!

Let's see closer versions of all my beautiful princess testers:

 And our newest little Prince...
James Thomas Hoover was born this past Sunday to us, weighing 7lbs 7oz, 20 1/2" long, and very healthy. We are so thankful for the precious miracle that God has blessed us with! Many more baby pics to come no doubt!
